Apanthropy is proud to present the second music video from Appalachian raw black metal duo, Zaraza. A scathing denunciation entitled ‘Grinding the Ashes of the Cremated,’ set to appear on the band’s debut EP …And You Will Remember This Winter, due out May 8th, 2026, through So Below Productions.

Biting deep into the ethos of the American nightmare, the track and video explore the pitch-black reaches of the human experience. A collective of people brought into ruin and disrepair, echoing the anguish of the Appalachian people, hailing from towns whose throats were cut in the name of coin and influence, cloaked under the guise of ‘progress.’
This cold reality manifests in grinding tremolo, throat-shredding vocals, and artillery percussion. A black portent of abyssal rage, accompanied by flashing bursts of imagery that is both alien and uncomfortably familiar, soaked in shades of bile, delivered in one sonic wave of utter decay.

The lyrics for ‘Grinding the Ashes of the Cremated’ creates a desperate narrative, hollers brought under deathly silence, rusted skeletons of industry rotting in the winter sun, and veins pumped full of nihilistic self-escape:
They call it progress
By cutting the throat of a town
God has abandoned his own shadow
Ruins lie on the ground
Homes collapse
Like lungs full of ash
That waving flag
Foretells only a crash
Grinding the ashes
Of the cremated
Scatter the remains
Where nothing is sacred
A complete dissolution
Of what once existed
Ruined dreams feed
Opiate fiends
Ruin officially sanctioned
Sanctioned
Veins collapse
Like homes
Reduced to trash
This burning flag
Ignited the backlash
Grinding the ashes
Of the cremated
Scatter the remains
Where nothing is sacred
Ruin officially sanctioned
Ruin officially sanctioned
(Hope has been cremated alive
Passed by the sands of time)
